„DoI deals with the first week of the revolution, where the players try to organize the fighters to put pressure on the Hungarian goverment to force the Soviet forces to leave, while trying to stay alive. It's main mechanism on the Hungarian side is action selection and point to point movement (has been likened to a gamer's version of Pandemic in that regard), and on the Soviet side a card driven event management game (similar to Twilight Struggle), and managing a discard queue to try and attack the revolutionary players.

NoF deals with the second week of the revolution (after their initial victory), where the Soviet red army returns in full force and besieges the city. The revolutionaries play a hidden movement (blocks) defense game where they will inevitably die, but try to slow down the soviets as much as they can to allow their families to escape. The soviet plays a more traditional wargame here, but with an innovative hand management twist: instead of rolling a die, for each attack you flip a card you chose not to draw. So the better cards you draw the worse your "die rolls" will be.

I am a designer of both (with different co-designers), with a significant overlap between the art team for both games. Also the two games are combinable for an epic campaign if you own both and the expansion for NoF as well. (Which comes with the cards needed to combine the two games.)“
